Our Commitment

Town Heritage is for everyone β€” regardless of ability, age, or technology. We are committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible.

What We Aim For

We work to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. This means:

  • Clear structure β€” headings, labels, and landmarks help you navigate
  • Keyboard friendly β€” you can use every part of the site without a mouse
  • Good contrast β€” text stands out clearly against backgrounds
  • Alternative text β€” photos and maps include descriptions for screen readers
  • Consistent design β€” things work the same way on every page
  • Clear language β€” we avoid jargon where we can

Where We Are Working

This is a living project β€” some parts are newer than others. We are actively improving:

  • Older photos and scanned documents may not yet have full descriptions
  • Interactive maps are complex β€” we continue to improve their keyboard navigation
  • We welcome your feedback on anything that is hard to use

What You Can Do

Your browser or device already helps you:

  • Hold Ctrl + + to make text bigger
  • Use your device's built-in screen reader β€” our pages are labelled for it
  • Adjust contrast and colours in your browser settings

Something Hard to Use? Let Us Know

If you find anything difficult to access, please tell us β€” it matters to us:
